The melanocytes (cells that produce melanin) over produce the melanin to protect the skin during trauma. This can differ greatly depending on the type and ethnicity of skin.
The lesions on the skin are commonly referred to as freckles, age spots or sun spots. They are mostly apparent on the hands, face and body areas most exposed to UV.
